Wolves dominate in shots department, snuff Heat 3-2

The Chicago Wolves salvaged a weekend split against the Abbotsford Heat, building a massive edge in shots on goal en route to a 3-2 triumph on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena.

The Vancouver Canucks affiliate out-shot the Heat 36-16, and Abbotsford – coming off a 3-2 win on Saturday – didn't post double-digit shots in any of the three periods.

In the opening frame, Chicago boasted an 11-2 edge in shots, but both Heat attempts on goal got past Wolves goalie Joe Cannata.

Roman Horak opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker just over two minutes in, and Paul Byron notched a power play goal to make it 2-0 at 11:02 of the first.

Andrew Ebbett potted a man-advantage goal of his own to get the Wolves back to within a goal before the first intermission, and Jordan Schroeder levelled the score midway through the second.

Chicago captain Darren Haydar notched the game-winner 57 seconds into the third on the power play.

Abby goalie Barry Brust did his best to keep his team in it, turning aside 33 of 36 shots, while Cannata made 14 saves in the win.

• The Heat (16-9-3-3) wrap up a three-games-in-three-days road trip on Monday against the Peoria Rivermen. They return home for a Friday-Saturday set vs. the Rochester Americans.
