Toronto goalie Scrivens makes amends as Marlies blank Heat 5-0

After being thoroughly embarrassed against the Abbotsford Heat just over two weeks ago, Ben Scrivens gave a far better account of himself on Sunday afternoon.

The Toronto Marlies goalie stopped all 24 shots the Heat sent his way, earning first star honours in his team's 5-0 triumph at Ricoh Coliseum.

Scrivens, you may recall, was between the pipes on Nov. 1 when the Heat set an AHL record by scoring twice – shorthanded, no less – in three seconds. The second goal, on a shot from the centre-ice faceoff by Ben Street, caught Scrivens napping.

But on Sunday, Scrivens was dialed in and sent AHL-leading Abbotsford (10-2-3, 23 points) to just its second regulation loss of the season.

Ryan Hamilton and Nazem Kadri staked the Marlies to a 2-0 lead heading into the third period, where the hosts put three more pucks past Heat goalie Leland Irving, courtesy Nicolas Deschamps, Matt Frattin and Will Acton.

Street registered a team-high four shots for Abby, while the Heat's top forward trio of Sven Baertschi, Ben Walter and Roman Horak each posted a -3 rating.

• The Heat hit the midway point of their five-game road trip on Friday, when they visit the Texas Stars. That tilt is the first of a three-games-in-three-nights stretch in the Lone Star State, followed by dates with the San Antonio Rampage and the Houston Aeros.
