Heat ink goalie Brust

The Abbotsford Heat filled the hole on their goaltending depth chart on Tuesday, signing Barry Brust to a one-year AHL contract.

Brust, a 29-year-old native of Swan River, Man., has a track record of success at the AHL level. In 2010-11 with the Binghamton Senators, he went 29-19-1-2 with seven shutouts, a 2.53 goals against average and a .925 save percentage during the regular season. The Senators would go on to win the Calder Cup, but Brust saw limited action in the playoffs as top prospect Robin Lehner took over as Binghamton's No. 1 keeper.

Brust spent last season playing in Germany for the Straubing Tigers, and posted a 19-12-0 record with a 2.37 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

Brust was a third-round draft choice by the Minnesota Wild in 2002, and has 11 NHL games under his belt from a stint with the Los Angeles Kings in 2006-07.
