Guillaume Desbiens is headed back to the Vancouver Canucks organization.
The left winger, who spent the bulk of last season with the Abbotsford Heat, joined the Canucks as an unrestricted free agent on Monday, signing a one-year, two-way contract.
Desbiens played three seasons (2008-11) in the Canucks system, predominantly with the Manitoba Moose, the team's AHL affiliate at the time. He turned in a career year with the Moose in 2008-09, posting 21 goals, 26 assists and 158 penalty minutes in 78 games. He suited up for a total 13 NHL games with the Canucks.
The bruising 6'2", 205-pound forward signed a two-way contract with the Calgary Flames prior to last season, and served as an assistant captain with the Heat. His offensive numbers were down (three goals, 11 assists in 59 AHL games, along with 114 penalty minutes), but his physical two-way play earned him a 10-game stint with the Flames (zero points, 25 penalty minutes).
