Abbotsford athletes helped the Fraser Valley team finish second overall at the 2016 BC Summer Games, but the Games also gave locals the chance to shine on the individual stage.

The brightest star on the local individual stage was swimmer Ryan Han, who won gold in both the 100 and 200 metres breaststroke.

Han, who swims with the Chilliwack Spartans, dominated in the boys 100m breaststroke and beat out the second place swimmer by over two seconds. He also won handily in the 200m breaststroke, outpacing the next fastest swimmer by over six seconds.

Han was the only local athlete to win two individual golds at the Games.

Local wrestlers cleaned up at the mat during the Games, with several grapplers winning medals on the mat.

Ravdeep Toor (boys 51 kg), Juggy Gakhal (boys 66 kg), Sahil Bajwa (boys 70 kg), Sunny Benning (boys 84 kg) and Jade Trolland (girls 57 kg) all won golds in their respective wrestling divisions at the event.

The lone local gold individual gold medal on the track went to Abbotsford's Jaelyn Dragt, who shattered her personal best in the triple jump by leaping a distance of 10.33m.

It was the first time she has ever cleared 10m and was nearly 0.80m ahead of her previous best, 9.54m, which she jumped last month at the provincial championships. She outjumped the second place finisher by nearly half a metre.

Abbotsford's Sheleena Wiley took home gold as part of the girls 4 X 100m. She teamed up with Langley's Natalia Monro and Jordan Jacobs, along with Maple Ridge's Chisom Obioha to edge out the second place team from Fraser River by .04 of a second.

Also picking up a gold on the track was Abbotsford's Cassidy Hutchison, who teamed up with Langley's Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi, Dominique Ronse and Holly Harrison in the 4 X 400m girls race. They beat Fraser River by over two seconds to secure top spot.

Abbotsford's Tori Warner won gold on the water, picking up the top score in the girls 14 to 17 towed water sports jump competition. She also earned silver in the trick competition in the same division. Also winning in towed water sports was Chelsi McNeice, who won silver in the girls 14 to 17 slalom.

Winning a pair of medals on the track was Rachel Mortimer, who scored a silver in the girls 1200m and a bronze in the girls 2000m.

Wrestler Armaan Malhi earned a silver in the boys 63 kg division, with grapplers Jasdeep Dhillon (boys 54 kg) and Charisma Tolland (51 kg girls) both winning bronze.

Joshua Carsience also picked up a bronze on the track, finishing third in the boys pole vault.
