Abbotsford native Nathan Lieuwen earned his first American Hockey League victory and shutout on Sunday on behalf of the Rochester Americans.

Lieuwen, a rookie pro making his third start with the Buffalo Sabres affiliate, turned aside 39 shots and earned first star honours as Rochester blanked the San Antonio Rampage 3-0.

A sixth-round draft choice by the Sabres in 2011, Lieuwen has spent the bulk of the 2012-13 season in the ECHL with the Greenville Road Warriors, where he went 14-10-2 with a 2.93 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
