The Alley-Oop Basketball tournament has announced its debut in Abbotsford this spring, with two weekends taking over Tradex.

The BC Opener event runs from May 9 to 11, while the BC Main Event goes from May 30 to June 1.

Alley-Oop is a Canadian basketball event for boys and girls aged nine to 18 with a goal to elevate the sport for youth in Canada. It launched in Alberta last year. They claim to be the largest youth basketball tournament in Canada.

The event will feature Tradex transformed into a giant basketball facility, with a number of courts set up throughout the building. The debut events in Alberta had 26 courts available for players.

The tournament uses FIBA/BC high school rules with two 24-minutes halves. The first 23 minutes of each half will be run time, with the last minute of the first half and last two minutes of the second half having stoppages. Each team gets one time-out per half. During the half time break one player from each team will get a chance to participate in the half-court “Splash For Cash” Contest.

Boys and girls will be separated into the following divisions:

  • U-9: (2016-2017)
  • U-11: (2014-2015)
  • U-13: (2012-2013)
  • U-15: (2010-2011)
  • U-18: (Sept/2006, 2007, 2008, 2009)
Registration is open for both tournaments, with a deadline of April 15 for the BC Opener and May 9 for the BC Main Event.
