Alderson joins Abbotsford United Soccer Club

New coach, technical director seeks to grow soccer group

The Abbotsford United Soccer Club has a new face on top.

It was announced on Monday that former Trinity Western University Spartans and University of Northern British Columbia men’s soccer coach Alan Alderson is now the technical director and head coach for the AUSC.

He is a Canadian Soccer Association national ‘A’ licence trained head coach with more than 25 years of experience.

Alderson most recently was working for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC as the head coach of their London Youth Academy Centre in Ontario, where he led the launch of their club and academy as well as coached their flagship ’99 boys team to an OSA U18 indoor provincial championship and to a first-place finish in the OYSL U17 Outdoor League.

He said he’s looking forward to build something special in Abbotsford.

“I am really excited to be a part of the Abbotsford United Soccer Club, a dynamic and growing organization who intend on being on the cutting edge of player development in the Fraser Valley,” Alderson stated.

“I look forward to helping generate the same enthusiasm that I have seen in Southern Ontario and Alberta and that I used to be a part of here in Abbotsford and I’m honoured to play a part in helping young players in this community strive to reach higher standards and develop their abilities while having a great time playing this beautiful game.”

Alderson already has a connection to the local soccer community, as he was also an assistant coach with the University of the Fraser Valley’s women’s team and the director of coaching for the Abbotsford Soccer Association’s USL Super Y program.

AUSC president Manjit Sohi said Alderson will be a great fit for his group, noting he should help the AUSC’s expansion into winter programming starting later this year.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Alan back to Abbotsford and to have him lead our club into our aggressive expansion into our winter programming,” Sohi said.

“Alan was part of the Abbotsford soccer scene back when it was one of the country’s leaders in the development of young players and we are excited to have him back in Abbotsford working with the players in our community. He is a coach with a tremendous reputation of working with young players and building exciting high-performing communities, and we look forward to a promising future for soccer in Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley.”
