Abbotsford’s Desiree Wiens (back row, second from left #14) has been named to the Fraser Valley Rush hockey team.

Abbotsford’s Desiree Wiens will be wearing a new set of colours on the ice in 2017-18.

The Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association product is joining the Fraser Valley Rush this hockey season, and will compete in the B.C. Hockey Midget AAA girls league against some of the top teams in the province and the country.

Wiens last played for the Abbotsford Ice Bantam A female team, and is set to suit up at forward for the Rush.

The Fraser Valley Rush Female Midget AAA Hockey Club was founded in 2007 and is a high performance female hockey team made up of players aged 15 to 17. The main goal of the program is to identify and train elite level athletes for provincial and national competition as well as prepare athletes for NCAA and CIS eligibility.

The Rush head to Calgary this weekend for the Calgary Fire Starter Jamboree, and then open the regular season on their home ice at the Surrey Sports and Leisure Complex against the Vancouver Island Seals on Oct. 6.
