The Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for athletes, teams, coaches, and sports builders who have made outstanding achievements or contributions in sport.

According to a press release from the ASHOG, 2020 and 2021 have been difficult years for sports, and they stated that they are excited to recognize athletes, teams and coaches who have managed to excel within the framework of pandemic restrictions.

Nominations are open for the following categories:

  • Sports Hall of Fame: local athletes, coaches, and builders whose achievement have placed them in the national and international level of their sport
  • Sports Wall of Fame: athletes and team (ages 14 to 24) who have demonstrated a high degree of accomplishment in their sport in 2020 to 2021
  • School Coach of the Year: School based coaching excellence and accomplishment in the elementary, middle, secondary, and tertiary school level
  • Community Coach of the Year: Community coaching excellence and accomplishment in grassroots, recreational and community sports at any age level

The 2020 class was headlined by hockey standout David Van der Guilk and international softball umpire Scott McLaren. The class was announced back in April 2020 and the event was supposed to occur in Sept. 2020, but the pandemic caused that event to be cancelled.

Visit abbysportshalloffame.ca for nomination criteria and nomination forms. Nominations are open until Dec. 31, 2021.
