Provincial basketball tournaments are gearing up

The B.C. senior girls basketball AAA tournament draw was released on Wednesday evening, and the Abbotsford Panthers are sitting pretty.

Coming off a Fraser Valley title win on Saturday, the Panthers are ranked second in the province and open the tournament at the Langley Events Centre on March 1 against Prince George.

The Panthers take on the 15th-ranked Polars at noon on March 1.

The other senior girls team in the AAA draw is the Yale Lions, who finished the season ranked 10th.

The Lions open at 1:45 p.m. on March 1 against the North Vancouver's Argyle Pipers.

If both Abbotsford and Yale win their games, they will then match up in a round two game slated for 1:45 p.m. on March 2.

In the junior girls tournament draw, both the Bateman Timberwolves and the MEI Eagles have punched their ticket to the provincials.

Bateman finished the season ranked 14th, and open on March 1 against Richmond's 19th-ranked R.A. McMath at LEC at 11:30 a.m.

The Eagles, ranked 15th, battle 18th-ranked Smithers at 10 a.m. on March 1.

The Lions are the lone Abbotsford representative in the junior boys tournament, which kicks off on Saturday at the LEC.

Yale ended the season ranked 18th, and kick off the tournament against Saanich's Clermont. That game tips off at 1 p.m.

The senior boys tournament, which runs from March 8 to 11 at LEC, is expected to release its draw in early March.
