Mission fastball girls golden
The Mission bantam B girls fastpitch team brought home the gold medal from an 11-team tournament in Ladner last week.
The Mission girls split their four round robin games, posting victories over the Langley Rebels and the Poco Ravens while falling to the Nanaimo Diamonds and North Van Stars.
Mission opened the playoffs with a 5-3 win over the Surrey Storm, and followed that with a 6-1 victory over the top-seeded South Delta Invaders behind a three-hit outing from Bobbie Plessiss. In the final, Mission met the Nanaimo Breakers, and rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to post a 4-1 win. Sabrina Russell and Hilary Novakowski ignited the offence with singles in the sixth inning, and Plessiss came through with an RBI hit to knot the score 1-1. Russell and Novakowski delivered run-scoring hits in the seventh inning to clinch the win.
Mission’s game MVPs included Plessiss, Shelby Clark, Cassidy Cannon and Alannah Blattman.
