Snow no deterrent to golfers

by Tom Hall

Ledgeview golf contributor

PGA golfers walked off the course Wednesday when it snowed in Arizona. Local golfers kept on going!

The Accenture Match Play at Deer Mountain was called because of flurries in the desert Wednesday whilst the Ledgeview faithful dragged their bags through the drifts? Well, not quite drifts though the scotch-mist did turn to snow and the greens were no longer green.

When asked why he was clearing snow from his line of putt, Bill McCulloch said “Well, snow is either a loose impediment or casual water according to the rules” and proceeded to hole a 15-footer along a line of putt edged in white.

Course grounds foreman Terry Riffin confirmed that golfers walking on the white stuff wouldn’t harm the course but pointed out that the snow did not last for long, melting within an hour. He stated that for February, the course was in wonderful condition and was especially dry for the winter season. He cited the following city website to see a camera view of up to date conditions on the McKee hill. Go to: www.abbotsford.ca/onlineservices/projects/scadacamera/ledgeview.htm

The Ledgeview golf shop confirmed that despite the sudden dip in temperature, green fee golfers have been turning up in droves at the course. With winter green fees as low as $25, who can blame them for getting out for some welcome exercise?
