Pilots on the brink of sweep, blow out Outlaws 9-1

The Abbotsford Pilots claimed a stranglehold on their first-round playoff series on Friday, blasting the Mission Icebreakers 9-1 at MSA Arena.

The Pilots went a remarkable 5-for-5 on the power play and out-shot the Outlaws 38-18 as they took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Pacific Junior Hockey League quarter-final set.

Brett Kolins (one goal, two assists) and Adam Rossi (three assists) both had three-point nights, while Dakota Schipper scored twice. Austin Edwards, Colton Cowden, Christopher Vinette, Brandon Daase, Joel Atkinson and Michael Tebbutt added singles.

Johnathan Philley was the lone Mission shooter to solve Abby goalie Aaron Oakley, who finished with 17 stops.

The Pilots, who the first two games of the series by scores of 5-1 and 6-3, can complete the sweep on Sunday, when they face the Outlaws at the Mission Leisure Centre at 6:15 p.m.
