Abbotsford's senior girls hoops teams win Valley openers

All three Abbotsford senior girls basketball teams in the Fraser Valley AAA tournament draw emerged victorious in first-round action on Monday.

The No. 5-seeded W.J. Mouat Hawks made short work of the No. 12 Centennial Centaurs, cruising to a 80-31 victory.

The No. 6 MEI Eagles outlasted the No. 11 Walnut Grove Gators 82-72 behind 36 points and 15 rebounds from Tessa Ratzlaff, while the No. 8 Yale Lions blasted the No. 9 Terry Fox Ravens 69-44.

The schedule for Tuesday's quarter-final games is as follows:

• Yale vs. No. 1 Brookswood (7:45 p.m., Brookswood Secondary, Langley)

• Mouat vs. No. 4 Fleetwood Park (7:45 p.m., Fleetwood Park Secondary, Surrey)

• MEI vs. No. 3 Maple Ridge (7:45 p.m., Maple Ridge Secondary)
