Avalanche call for Abby native Van der Gulik
David Van der Gulik is back in the NHL.
The 29-year-old forward from Abbotsford was recalled by the Colorado Avalanche last Friday, and suited up for Saturday's 3-1 home win over the Edmonton Oilers.
Van der Gulik was summoned after Avalanche star Gabriel Landeskog, the NHL's reigning rookie of the year, was placed on injured reserve due to head and leg injuries.
A former member of the Abbotsford Heat during their inaugural 2009-10 campaign, Van der Gulik accrued 25 of his 38 games of NHL experience last season with the Avalanche. He posted one goal and five assists, along with a plus-3 rating, during that stint.
Prior to his recent recall, Van der Gulik had registered 12 goals and 13 assists with the Lake Erie Monsters, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, this season.
