The Abbotsford Rugby Football Club showcased some of its top youth players on Saturday, and they turned in a dominant performance against a team from south of the border.

Stu Sayce led the way with a pair of tries, while Sebastian Gibson, Graeme Fugger, Jake Thiel, Joel Nervais and Noah Jensen added singles. Spencer Miller (2), Josh Thiel (2) and Louis Retief booted tries.

CUP COMPETITION COMES TO ABBY

• 12:45 p.m. Dunbar Keg (U20 Men) – Vancouver Island at Fraser Valley

• 2:30 p.m. McKechnie Cup (Sr. Men) – Vancouver Island at Fraser Valley

The games are part of a three-week series of inter-union rep rugby matches. The series wrap up next weekend, with Vancouver hosting the Fraser Valley at Brockton Oval in Stanley Park.

OLD BOYS RUGBY STARTING SPRING SEASON

The Originals, the old boys side of the ARFC, is preparing to kick off the spring season with a full slate of games starting Sunday, Feb. 17 at home, and new players are welcome.

Old boys rugby is full-on rugby played in the true spirit of the game with allowances made for players in the latter half of their career. Unlimited substitutions and a game divided into four quarters, providing additional breaks, makes the games appropriate for players regardless of age or skill.

The Originals practice on Thursdays starting at 6:30 p.m. at DeLair Park with a social component following. Games are played on Sundays with a 1 p.m. kickoff. The schedule is posted on the ARFC website www.abbotsfordrugby.com.

If you are 37 or older and are looking to continue or restart your rugby career, contact David Hull at ddhull@shaw.ca or 604-302-7212, or come out to practice Thursday evenings.
