Gymnast Ikeda climbs podium at Toyota World Cup
A bronze medal from Ken Ikeda was the highlight for Abbotsford's Twisters Gymnastics Club at the recent Toyota World Cup in Japan.
Olympic veteran Ikeda notched a third-place result on the pommel horse – his specialty – and added fifth- and sixth-place finishes on the parallel bars and high bar, respectively.
Zachary Clay, making his debut as a senior athlete, turned in a strong performance. He was fourth on pommel horse, sixth on vault, and seventh on floor and parallel bars.
Three other Twisters gymnasts cheered on Ikeda and Clay, and also took the opportunity to train with the international athletes in Toyota, Japan. Jonathan Osers, Steven Chaplin and Nicolas Garfias all gained valuable international experience.
