Johanson excels at Great West Fitness tennis tourneys
Abbotsford tennis player Rosie Johanson turned in a pair of terrific performances in recent tournaments at Great West Fitness.
Johanson, 13, won GWF's under-16 girls event, and lost in the finals of the U18 tourney. Up next on her schedule is the Orange Bowl in Florida, one of the world's most prestigious international tennis tournaments, where she'll compete in the U14 age group.
Other local highlights from the GWF tourneys included a run to the boys U18 semifinals by Ben Sigouin, the reigning U14 national champ. He lost to Tejas Phaterpekar in a three-hour match.
Gobind Pangli of Abbotsford made it to the boys U18 quarter-finals, while Mirela Gigovic was eliminated in the second round of both the girls U16 and U18 draws.
The local tournaments were selection events for the 2013 Rogers Indoor Junior Nationals.
