A pair of Abbotsford soccer players were honoured by the Canada West conference last week.

Gagandeep Dosanjh of the UBC Thunderbirds was named the Canada West men's player of the year, while University of the Fraser Valley goalie Mark Village earned a second team all-star nod.

Dosanjh, a third-year striker, led the conference in goals (12), assists (9) and points (21), while leading the Thunderbirds to an undefeated regular season (11-0-3).

Additionally, the third-year striker was named a first team All-Canadian by the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) on Wednesday.

“Gagan is a real pleasure to coach," UBC head coach Mike Mosher said. "On top of his skill and ability on the ball, he is often one of the hardest working players on the game field and practice field. His work rate and competitiveness are second to none and set a great example and standard for his teammates.”

Village (pictured below) backstopped the Cascades to their most successful Canada West campaign (5-5-4). The third-year keeper made 57 saves in 13 games, posting a career-best goals against average (1.25) and breaking UFV's single-season record for shutouts with four.

“Mark really deserves this and has been terrific for us in goal this year," UFV head coach Alan Errington said. "He is also a leader in the team, both on and off the field."
