Clearbrook Park hosts XC running provincials
Over 400 athletes from throughout B.C. will converge on Clearbrook Park on Saturday for the provincial cross country running championships.
The meet begins at 10:45 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m., and has races for athletes in divisions from age nine to masters (35-plus). While the younger athletes will be running over a 2 km course to decide who is the best in their age class, older athletes will cover longer distances and will run for positions on B.C. teams that will compete in the Canadian Championships in Vancouver on Nov. 24.
Callum Pilgrim and Alexandra Siemens of the local Valley Royals club are expected to contend for spots on the B.C. junior girls team. A week ago at Aldergrove’s Big Rock event, Pilgrim, a Grade 10 runner from Mouat, was an easy winner of the senior girls’ race.
The Wakelyn brothers, Maguire and Parker, are expected to do well in races for their age divisions. Maguire will run in the nine-year-old boys’ race while Parker will compete 11-year-old division.
