Hayden nominated for Canadian male athlete of year award
Mission swimmer Brent Hayden is a finalist for male athlete of the year at the 40th Canadian Sport Awards.
Hayden tasted Olympic glory in August, winning bronze in the 100-metre freestyle at the Summer Games in London. Clocking in at 47.80 seconds, the former Mission Marlins swimmer finished just behind gold medal winner Nathan Adrian of the United States (47.52) and silver medalist James Magnussen of Australia (47.53).
The other nominees in the category are also Olympians – swimmer Ryan Cochrane of Victoria, and kayaker Adam van Koeverden of Oakville, Ont. Canadian Sport Award winners will be announced on Oct. 17.
