High school football: Hurricanes run over Seaquam
A strong running game powered the Rick Hansen Hurricanes to a 36-21 victory over Seaquam in varsity AA football action.
Reagan Doucette had 13 carries for 225 yards and two running touchdowns, and added a 44-yard touchdown reception. Jasnoor Dhaliwal had 16 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Alex Ho went 9-for-23, for 199 yards and a major, and also scored a running touchdown on a four-yard plunge.
In the passing game, Brandon Ho had two catches for catches for 50 yards, and Zach Toews five catches for 65 yards .
“Offensively we played well, despite a two-week layoff,” said coach Paul Gill. “Putting up the offensive totals we did – we as a staff were pleased.”
The defence was led by Toews with eight tackles, and Hurricane stalwarts generated six sacks, three interceptions and a dozen tackles for losses.
“We play our biggest game of the year this Friday against crosstown rival Robert Bateman. With only five league games, every game is so important.”
Friday at 1 p.m. the Hurricanes host the Timberwolves.
MOUAT 47, WEST VAN 33
W.J. Mouat beat West Vancouver 47-33 in triple A action, and once again Maleek Irons proved unstoppable.
The Hawks fed West Van a steady diet of Irons, and on 33 carries he put up 376 yards and six touchdowns. His longest was a 55-yard outing.
Quarterback Mario Narte threw for 181 yards on 6-for-10 passing. He hit Chris Brake on a 24-yard pass for a major. Keenan Godden was a favorite target, and caught three passes for 84 yards.
Jake Firlotte had a good day on both sides of the ball, with two receptions for 73 yards, and five tackles and a pick on defence.
Steven Munga had four tackles and a quarterback sack, and Nick Westad three tackles and a sack.
Friday at 7:30 p.m. Mouat will host St. Thomas More.
• In other action, the Abbotsford Senior Panthers play their first home game of the year against Langley on Friday. Kickoff is 3 p.m. at Rotary Stadium.
