Mariner wins soccer scholarship

Kree Byrne of Abbotsford has won a B.C. soccer scholarship.

Byrne has played soccer since he was six years old, and is presently playing for Magnuson Ford Mariners on the U18 BC Premier Soccer League squad.

He has also played on the men’s U20 team, as well as playing internationally, traveling to Florida four years in a row with his team to compete in the Y league National Championships.  Byrne has stayed loyal to his Mariners football club, and has reaped the benefits of the highest levels of coaching from the likes of Colin Miller, Alan Errington, and Alan Alderson, all who have been both his team coaches, as well as his Abbotsford Collegiate High School soccer academy coaches, where Byrne attends.

In addition to consistently attaining a 4.0 GPA, Byrne gives back to the community by volunteering his time coaching kids soccer and other sports to keep youth active. In addition, you can also see him refereeing or lining soccer games on the weekends, when he’s not playing his own game.

Byrne actually comes from a whole family of coaches and referees, as both his parents are B licenced soccer coaches, and have coached both Kree and his two brothers, Koby and Tammer through many years of rep soccer. He has been accepted into the BSc. program at UFV, and hopes to continue his soccer career on the varsity soccer team  this fall.
