Hadwin seventh at PGA Tour event
With a tie for seventh place at the Frys.com Open on Sunday, Adam Hadwin boosted his chances of earning a PGA Tour card for next season.
Hadwin, a Canadian Tour regular who was granted a sponsor’s exemption to the PGA event in San Martin, Calif., fired a final-round 70 to finish at 11 under par. That left him six strokes back of winner Bryce Molder, who beat Briny Baird in a playoff.
The Abbotsford golfer earned $130,312 for his finish Sunday, which boosts his winnings in four PGA Tour events to $432,752. According to pgatour.com, that leaves Hadwin 159th on the money list.
His money list placing is significant, because the top 125 at season’s end earn their tour card for next season. Finishing between 126 and 150, meanwhile, would give him a pass to the final stage of Q-School.
The Frys.com result lands Hadwin a spot in the field for next week’s McGladrey Classic at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia, offering another opportunity to boost his ranking.
It marks the second top-10 finish on the PGA Tour for Hadwin, who thrilled Canadian golf fans with a run at the RBC Canadian Open title in July at Shaughnessy. He ultimately finished tied for fourth at that event.
