Abbotsdford's fireworks ban due to idiocy of louts

Aynsley Livingstone writes, “It angers me that because of one person’s experience with fireworks out on Halloween night, we as a city have to suffer.”

No, it was “we as a city” who had to suffer because of the idiocy of hundreds of ignorant louts, young and old. The fireworks started by mid-September, increasing in intensity until the orgy of Halloween, and continuing well beyond that day.

The  fire damage in Abbotsford was in the millions the year before council decided to take action.  Cats, dogs, horses, and cows were terrorized, and birds died from the shock of the explosions as they were roosting in trees.

The reality was no longer anything like the idyllic experience of Ms. Livingstone’s youth.

If it were, most people would never have begged for a ban on unrestricted fireworks.
