Late this past Sunday evening a fire ignited in Trinity Memorial United Church in downtown Abbotsford.

We are grateful for the alert folks who noticed the smoke and called 911. We are also very thankful for the amazing response of the Abbotsford fire and police services. Their quick and thorough action saved our historical building. Thank you.

Many times people indicated that we were lucky. Lucky someone was out a 11 p.m. and noticed. Lucky that during our recent renovation, fire-stop material was installed. Lucky that it wasn't 15 minutes later. After a number of such statements, perhaps a better word would be providence and the best response might be thanks be to God.

The restoration will take some time but we will be able to continue meeting for our Sunday worship in the unaffected part of the building. Many of our programs and many of our community groups using the building will be affected.

However, the church will still stand strong because the church is the gathered people and not a fragile building.
