THIESSEN
Waldo Thiessen was born on November 26, 1923 to Dietrich and Helena Thiessen in Orlov, Russia, the second of nine children. They immigrated to Canada and settled in the Fraser Valley in 1929. In 1955, he completed a Biblical Studies degree at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta. In 1957, Waldo married Mary Matties in Yarrow, BC. They lived in Vancouver where they raised their 5 children. In 1971, they moved to Abbotsford where Waldo spent the majority of his working years as a house painter. In 1998, Waldo suffered a major stroke. Following this, he resided at the Menno Home until he passed away on March 18, 2009. He was predeceased by his father, Dietrich, mother, Helena, and brother, John. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Nick (Anne), Frank (Margaret), Jake (Mary), Henry (Edna), Margaret Bergen (George) Mary Loewen (Tom), Art (Elsie) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived and will be missed by his wife Mary and children and grandchildren: Paul (Louella) and their children Jessica, Jason, John, and Keygan, David and his children Dylan & Thomas, Sharon Gerbrandt (Randy) and their children Kendra, Brian, and Kevin, Jane Thompson (Steve) and their children Graeme and Bradley, and Dan and his child Alyssa. A memorial service will be held at the Bakerview Church at 2285 Clearbrook Road on March 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.
