Mr. Victor Syrnyk, a long-time resident of Sumas Prairie, passed away on August 21, 2005 at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his parents, Tony and Mary, a sister Mary, and brother Bill. Neighbours knew his a fiercely independent man, determined to live out his days on the dairy farm pioneered by his family in the 1940’s. Declining health made it necessary for him to live in a boarding home for the last 18 months of his life, where he enjoyed for the first time the conveniences of modern life. In passing, he leaves to mourn, his life-long friends, Bill and Morris Greer, caregiver Norma Thompson, and an entire community of Sumas Prairie farmers who lovingly kept an eye out for him as he walked to and from Abbotsford.
Burial will take place at Hazelwood Cemetery at 10:00 am on August 26, 2005 and a Service of Remembrance will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford with Major Angus Haggarty officiating.
