Nesbitt, Valerie Ethel

It is with sadness, profound love and cherished memories that we say goodbye to a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Valerie Ethel Nesbitt. Val passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 22, 2008. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 54 years, Raymond, and children Brian (Conny), Gordon (Natalie) and Maureen (John), her grandchildren and great grandchildren and her large extended family.

Val was born in Abbotsford, one of nine children to Tom and Daisy DeLair. She devoted many of her younger years to working with youth in the United Church. As her husband Ray was with the RCMP, Val had the opportunity to create a home for her family in a variety of locations in British Columbia, returning to Abbotsford, upon retirement, in 1987.

Val completely embraced life through her passion for sporting activities, travel and her family. She was thrilled to be a grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of the Ledgeview Golf Club and the Abbotsford Curling Club. She and Ray enjoyed gardening and world travel, visiting some 35 countries and spending relaxing winters in the Arizona sunshine. Val excelled as a cook and was a superb hostess. She was a loving, vital, woman and the memory of her gentleness, generosity, strength and devotion to family will remain with us always.

Special thanks to Dr. Neil Hilliard, Laurel Nicholson and the Fraser Valley Home Care Nursing staff, especially Robin Kitagawa, for the loving care and support provided in Val's final days.

A memorial service will be held in Val's honour at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2009, at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2597 Bourquin Cres. East, Abbotsford, with a reception to follow at the Salvation Army Cascade Community Church, 35190 DeLair Road. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Foundation, 32900 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC, V2S 1K2, specifically for pancreatic cancer research.
