NEWMAN, Thomas (Tom) William

aged 69, passed away peacefully at home on May 23rd 2010 after a long battle with cancer. Tom was born on February 15, 1941 in Bristol, England. He attended the School of Military Survey at the age of 16, then joined the Royal Engineers as a surveyor. He worked in Germany, United Kingdom, the Middle East and Africa. After leaving the Army he lived and worked in Zambia and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), before immigrating to Canada in 1977. In Canada he worked in land survey first with BC Hydro and then with Aplin & Martin. In his leisure time he was a keen golfer, a potter and a gardener. He also loved photography and wildlife.

He is survived by Jenny, his spouse of 39 years, his son Jeremy and family, and his brother Jim and family in England. Many thanks to the doctors and staff of BC Cancer Agency and Fraser Health for all their help and support. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Agency may be made in Tom's honour.
