It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, Svend Helge Christensen at the age of 97 on April 20, 2017. He passed peacefully at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC. Dad was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on March 13, 1920 and was raised on the family farm outside of Holstebro, Denmark. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 and sent for his bride Jytte in 1953. They settled in Edmonton, Alberta where they lived until 1976 at which time they moved to Kelowna, BC. Dad moved to Abbotsford shortly after the passing of his wife in 2003. He stayed active by ballroom and square dancing at the Abbotsford Seniors Centre as well as dancing on Sunday’s at the Aldergrove Legion. Dad resided in Mission, BC for the last few years.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Jytte and survived by his son Ron (Karen) of Leduc, Alberta and daughter Sue (Brian) of Mission BC. Dad was very proud of his grandchildren Kim, Mary, Ashley, Jace, Rick, Haley, Shanna and Robyn and his great-grandchildren Aaron, William, Aiden, Calleigh, Ryker, Reid, Molly, and Hunter, as well as his soon to be born granddaughters Freyja and Ella.
The family will be hosting a Memorial Gathering in remembrance of Dad on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017, to commence at 2:30 pm at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, located at 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Mission Hospice Society (Christine Morrison Hospice) or the BC Cancer Foundation.
