Sarah Unrau was born in Kronsweide, Ukraine on May 11, 1915 to Cornelius and Helena Unrau, the third of six siblings. In 1923, the parents made plans to move to Canada. Enroute in Germany she and her sister developed eye problems and stayed there with dad while mom and the sons left for Bloomenort, Manitoba. Cornelius and his two daughters arrived in Canada several months later. At 13 she moved to Reinfelt with her family and at age 14 began working to earn money to help pay for her mom’s medical needs. Her mom died of TB in 1933 and Sarah took over the home responsibilities. After getting baptized in 1934. Sarah married Dietrich on Sept.24, 1934. 1947 was a big year for her family when they moved to BC along with other family and friends. They attended the West Abbotsford Mennonite Church and later the Olivet Church. Sarah lost her husband Dietrich due to cancer in 1974, while he was an alderman for the City of Abbotsford. Several years later she moved into a condo on Tims Ave. in Clearbrook. In 2002 Sarah transitioned to Bevan Lodge in Abbotsford and enjoyed having everything done for her along with getting maximum visitors almost every day. The last two years were very happy times for her. On May 11, the day of her 90th birthday she was admitted to the Abbotsford Hospital and went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2005. She left behind 1 brother, 1 sister, 3 sister-in-laws and 11 children and their families: Bill (Charlotte)Dyck, Ann (Fred) Bullock, Martha Nahlob, John (Diana) Dyck, Doug (Marilyn) Dyck, Marilynn (Erv) Falk, Karilyn (Vern) Cornies, Ron (Kathy) Dyck, Ken (Carol) Dyck , Staryla Braun, Beverly (Lorne) Peters, plus 37 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was a woman of faith, hope and love and all of her children call her "BLESSED". Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. from Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Rd.
