Santokh Singh "Tok" Herar

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts the family of Santokh (Tok) Singh Herar announces his sudden passing on Nov. 20 at Mission Hospital.

Tok was born in Jalandhar,India on April 15, 1933 and immigrated to Canada in 1952, settling in Mission City.

He is survived by his wife (Kuldip) along with his three sons Daljit (Rajinder) Ken (Anne-Marie) and Harry, and his three grandchildren Sandeep, Parveen and Jagteg.   

Tok was a leading insurance agent for many decades with North American Life, setting business records and winning many company awards.  He was a well-regarded Sikh pioneer and loved his community of Mission. He was an active member of Rotary Club of Mission and was a Paul Harris Fellowship Award winner with perfect attendance for 56 years. He could have been one of the longest serving Rotarians in Canada.  He was also a member of The Free Masons for 55 years.

He was an exceptional athlete who excelled in tennis, soccer and badminton. He coached and mentored many people in the Fraser Valley.

Tok was a kind and generous man who was a philanthropist for many worthwhile projects. He was young at heart and always strived to make our communities better. He will be greatly missed by so many. His long-lasting legacy will remain and he will be remembered as an inspiration to others. People looked to him for wisdom and guidance.  

He was passionate about diversity and how important it is that to all live together and respect our natural differences.

He always expressed his thoughts through his son's Cycling4Diversity organization.

His family appreciates all the love and respect shown at this difficult time.

Funeral services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26 at Fraser River Funeral Home,  2061 Riverside Rd. Abbotsford.
