BIRKENHEAD, Ruth Claire

(nee Van Loosen, formerly Taylor)

Ruth was born & raised in Morse, SK 79 yrs ago, the year of depression and drought. She had 3 older brothers & 3 deceased siblings. Her 1st paid job was usherette in the Morse Theatre. As a new bride she lived in Yellowknife and Hay River, NWT which she found quite challenging. Moving to Abbotsford in 1953, it remained home until her death on May 18th, after a long fight with cancer.

Ruth not only raised her kids and ran her home while cooking, baking, canning fruits, jams, relishes and pickles, but for many years also worked at Buckerfields office in Sumas Prairie, and National Grain Ltd. Ruth loved her home and loved to entertain which she and Alan did often. Childhood friends remained throughout Ruth's life. She knew her neighbors well and many good friendships were formed from these relationships. She loved her kitty-cats. Christmas was a favorite and Ruth's home reflected this. Many hours were spent writing cards, lovingly wrapping gifts and creating magic for family and friends. Ruth's Christmas baking was a specialty and loved by all, especially her mince-meat tarts. No others ever compared.

Ruth's passion truly was her family and loving husband, Alan. She was the most amazing and loving Mom to Wende, Kent & Rick. Grama to Candace, Michelle, Chris & Sarah, and Great-Grama to Levi , L.J. & Alison. She was Auntie Ruth to many nephews and nieces.

The family thanks Fraser Health's hospice palliative care service RN's and Home Care ladies for the wonderful care they gave Ruth. They were a light in our dark hours. Our family is forever changed. Ruth was so very special and so very loved. Her light will shine in our hearts, forever.
