MILLER
Russell E. Miller passed peacefully in his sleep on November 2, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. Born to Jim and Nellie in Brule Alberta on January 13, 1923, he was later joined by surviving brothers Gerald (Margaret) and Jim (Evelyn). Russ joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941, proudly serving on the Destroyers Henry and Gatineau, until 1944. While serving in the Navy he met and married Kathleen Murphy from Liverpool, England. During the next 63 years they raised 4 children, 2 daughters Marilyn (Terry) Dionne, Pam (Jim) Lester, 2 sons Russell, Guy (Karen) who gave them 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. After Kathleen passed away in December of 2006 Russ felt his work here was done. Alice had a completely different idea for Russ. He fell in love, as did the rest of the family, with Alice. She showed him he was truly needed, wanted and loved, without question. Alice, we thank you for making his final years full of love and compassion. We owe you so much, you are an angel. Russ was a lifetime member of the Abbotsford Royal Canadian Legion, a Color Guard and a tireless contributor to all Legion activities. We thank the Legion for their support in both Kathleen's passing and now again with Russ. A celebration of his life will take place at Henderson's Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Rd in Abbotsford, British Columbia on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Tributes can be left at www.MeM.com. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Legions Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
