Roy Akira Yakashiro of Bradner passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at Royal Columbian Hospital on November 19, 2005. Roy was born on March 27, 1931 in Ruskin, BC. He was in his 75th year.
He was a successful businessman in the Abbotsford area, having spent many years in the automotive industry. He was the founder and owner of Sunrise Toyota from which he retired in 1992. Since his retirement his sons Bryan and David ran the business.
In 1976 Roy married Katherine Lawton after the passing of his first wife. Together they united their children, building a strong, close and loving family.
Roy was a man of many passions, the most important being his family, grandchildren and good friends. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, winemaking, community involvement and was renowned for the time he spent helping others. The door to the Yakashiro’s home was always open; he loved to live and lived to love.
Roy is survived by his loving wife Kathy and his children Donna & James Hansen, Danny & Doris Lawton, Jan & Richard Bauch, Ruth Flodin & Jack Kraal, Paula Yakashiro, Marsha & Arni Honkawa, David & Danell Yakashiro, Tina & David Bishop, Long Nguyen, Thao Bui and Karla and John Ramsay. His son Bryan predeceased him in 2001.
Roy loved and took great pride in his many grandchildren, Katherine, Matthew, Alex, Rachel, Jeffrey, Donald, Greg, Corey, Kevin, Dylan, Emily, Chloe, Michael, Kristen, Melissa, Stefani, Kyle, Jessica, Mackenzie, Kelly, Drew and Kaitlin.
A brother and seven sisters survived him. His sister Colleen predeceased him in 2002.
A Celebration of Roy’s Life will be held on Thursday, November 24, 2005 at 1:30 pm at Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Road, Abbotsford. Viewing to be held prior to the service. Interment will take place at Hazelwood Cemetery, followed by a reception at Bradner Hall, 5305 Bradner Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Abbotsford Christmas Bureau.
