December 17, 1915 – August 19, 2008
Rosena Lillian (Rose) Smith passed away in Abbotsford in her 93rd year. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1986. Rose’s radiant personality and beautiful smile will be dearly missed. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Fran (Wayne) Akins and Rosemary (Paul) Bingham, grandchildren Andrea (Jamie) Middleton, Heather (Talid) Akins Jalbout, Jesse (Claire) Bingham, Tom (Angie) Bingham, and Brad Bingham, and great-grandchildren Jordyn Middleton, Joshua and Erica Bingham. Rose was born and raised in Winnipeg, where she met and married Harry Smith. In 1946 the family moved to B.C., first to a farm in Bradner, then to Abbotsford in 1958. Rose was a long time employee of Canada Post. She volunteered for a number of community organizations, offering her time and talents to the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 15 (Life Member), Canadian Red Cross, Legion Poppy Fund and Legion Bingo charity. She enthusiastically supported young people and for many years represented the Legion Ladies Auxiliary in presenting bursaries to local high school students. She enjoyed swimming, bowling and card games, participating in all of these activities until a week before her death. For many years, Rose was a passionate fan of the Abbotsford Pilots Junior Hockey Team, and was recently made an honourary member of the team. The family would like to express appreciation to the wonderful staff of 2 West, MSA Hospital, and to Dr. Michael Bale for many years of attentive and compassionate care. Thanks also to the residents and staff of Cascade Court, where she had a very comfortable home and active social life during her final years. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 29 at Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Rd., Abbotsford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose’s name to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
