Robert (Bob) Theodore
Robert passed away, in his sleep at home, on October 2 at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Edie, in February 2006. Robert is survived by his three loving children: Sharon; Carol (France); and David (Serena); six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; nephews, nieces and many good friends. He will be greatly missed. Born in Smaland, Sweden in 1915 to Theodore and Elizabeth Nilsson, their surname was changed to Nelson when they moved to Canada when Robert was 12 years old. Bob joined the R.C.A.F in 1940 as an aircraft mechanic. He met Edie Canning when he was on leave, visiting his parents in Mission, B.C., and they were married on September 8, 1950. After retiring from the air force in 1965, Robert and Edie settled in Mission. He worked as a bookkeeper in a local garage and then with the local Post Office. Bob was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was one of their main photoÂgraphers at Âspecial events. He also worked with the Air Cadets for many years and volunteered at the Mission Museum, mainly taking pictures for their displays. Robert and Edie enjoyed traveling together to places like Tuktoyaktuk, Memphis, the Maritimes and Churchill. When Edie’s health became a concern in 2003 they decided to move into an apartment and were the first to move into Carrington House.
A memorial service was held at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home, on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Mission Hospice Society would be appreciated.
