In Loving Memory of Robert Grant Robinson

June 24, 1929 ~ November 11, 2016


Grant passed away suddenly in Tofield, AB as he was being driven to his residence by his daughter-in-law, Marie Robinson, after a visit to a local cafe. He was born in Lloydminster, SK to Robert (Bob) and Amy Robinson of Furness, SK. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Matilda (Tillie). He is survived by his son, Daniel Robinson daughter-in-law Marie Robinson and granddaughter Steevi Robinson. He is also survived by his sister, Alice McMillan and brother-in-law Bruce McMillan of Abbotsford, and several cousins in the USA. Grant started school in Furness, SK. In 1941 he moved to Abbotsford with his parents and his sister Alice. He attended Dunach School and Phillip Sheffield High School. Following school, he worked for five years in the Canadian Pacific Railway Station in Abbotsford, which was active at the time and had a full time agent. He also worked in several Canadian National Railway Stations in the freight department, including Vancouver and Spences Bridge. Grant's goal was always to be a pastor or a missionary. He attended and graduated from Canadian Bible College in Regina, SK in 1960. Shortly after that he married Matilda (Tillie) Gertzen in Calgary, AB. She was presently a missionary in Nigeria, West Africa and was on furlough in Vancouver, BC. That was the beginning of a life-long romance, a strong marriage until Tillie passed away on October 20, 2013. In 1962 Grant and Tillie went to Nigeria, West Africa to work as full time missionaries. On September 12, 1966 they received a chosen son, Daniel Robert. Due to the fact that he was a "premie", it was several months before he was released to his parents. In 1984 Grant and Tillie retired from overseas ministry and were seconded to the Northwest Center for World Missions. They fully retired in 1990 in Abbotsford. They moved to Tofield, AB in 2013. and shortly after moving there Tillie passed away. Grant moved to a care facility in Tofield until he passed away November 11, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at Sevenoaks Alliance Church, January 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm.
