It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Riitta Sovio, our beloved mother, grandmother,great-grandmother, friend, and wife. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Matti, her 3 sons, Olli (Sandi), Henry (Janina), and Andy, her grandchildren, Katrina, Luke and Paul (Kim) and their children, Jacob and Raiya. She also leaves behind 2 sisters (Ritva and Anneli), sister-in-law (Iina) and their families in Finland. Riitta taught kindergarten in Finland before moving to Surrey with her husband and boys in 1958, where she quickly became a confidante of the neighbourhood children. She was devoted to her family and took great joy in visiting with her grandchildren and listening to their stories. She loved talking with friends, baking for her family and gardening. Flowers and nature gave her great peace. Riitta took pride in making her home a warm, welcoming place for all, including the pets she took in and lovingly cared for. Her family and friends will remember her as a caring, outgoing person who left an impression on everyone she met. She will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church - 2029 Ware St., Abbotsford, BC
