Peter H. Howard

On July 16, 2017, our beloved father went peacefully to be with the Lord from the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, B.C. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Doris, brothers Mike and Bill, sisters Mary and Anne, brother-in-law and special friend, John Thompson, and great grandson Isaac. Left to mourn: daughter Eileen (Doug), son Daryl, granddaughters Emily (Jacob), Beth (Andrew), Elanor (Aaron) and great grandchildren Sami, Sebastian, Madeleine, Nora, Thomas, Isla, and Rupert, brother John (Ella), sisters-in-law Gladys, Josie and Charlotte, and many nieces, nephews and their children. Peter was born January 28, 1923 and lived his early life in Opal, Alberta, finishing his schooling in Edmonton. He loved active outdoor living and all kinds of sports through out his life. His first job was with the Northern Alberta Railway in Dawson Creek, B.C. He served in the R.C. Army and after World War 2 he returned to Dawson Creek to continue with his job. Here he met and married Doris and they raised their two children. In 1969, Peter was transferred to Edmonton where he worked as an accountant for the N.A.R until 1980, when the N.A.R. was amalgamated with the C.N. He continued with them until 1983, when after more than 40 years he retired. In retirement he and Doris moved to Abbotsford where they ived for many years. Peter carried on with his life-long love of gardening, wood working, and keeping fit. Peter had a special love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren…his own and those of his nieces and nephews. He was always the grandpa with the candy drawer! The family would like to give a special thank you to Chartwell Cedarbrook Chateau, staff and residents, for giving Dad an excellent 5 years in his retirement home. Thank you also for their support to us during Dad’s final days. As well we thank Dr. Nemanishen for his care of Dad before he fell. We also cannot give high enough praise to the Christine Morrison Hospice and all their staff and hospice volunteers for the wonderful care that they gave Dad. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Dad’s name to the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, B.C. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
