Peter John Funk
1930 ~ 2017
Our father, Peter Funk, of Abbotsford, BC went home to his Lord and Saviour on June 9th, 2017. He was born February 15, 1930 near Arnaud, Manitoba to Henry and Elizabeth Funk. The family moved to Rosedale, BC in 1944. He married Gertrude Goosen at the age of 23. They were happily married for 51 years until Mom passed away in 2004. Dad was a member at Clearbrook MB Church and previously at Ross Road Community Church where he was very active for many years. Dad started out as a linesman for BC Tel and advanced to management, retiring in 1992 after a 40 year career. He volunteered throughout his life in the church and in the community with activities ranging from leading boys clubs to church moderator to service with the Abbotsford Gleaners. Dad’s first priority was always relationships, with his Lord and Saviour, his wife and family, the church and the community at large. He was always willing to take time to listen and encourage and pray with those around him. He valued hard work, honesty and integrity and always tried to do his best. He was the first to help others in any task that was needed. Dad enjoyed a wide variety of activities which included swimming, water skiing, biking, running and working out, and even continued to snow ski until he was 80 years old. He loved yard work, especially working in the garden. Dad was predeceased by his parents, and five siblings: Henry, Frieda, Edward, Otto and David. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his four children: Sylvia (Rudi) Pauls, Bob (Johnna) Funk, Colleen (Lawrence) Isfeld and Gary (Paula) Funk. He was adored by his twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Dueck and the nurses and care-aides of Baker 2 at ARH for their care of Dad in his final days. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm at South Abbotsford Church, 32424 Huntingdon Road in Abbotsford.
