Peter Derksen was welcomed into the presence of his Lord on November 15, 2014 at the age of 86. Peter was born in Reinland, Manitoba to Peter and Maria Derksen, the middle child of five siblings. The family moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1936 and he was baptized at the age of 18 in West Abbotsford Mennonite Church. He married the love of his life, Mary Klassen, in 1951 and together, they served as missionaries in Japan from 1954 until 1999, following his life's motto, "Your servants for Jesus' sake". He will be dearly missed by Mary, his wife of 63 years, his older sister Erna (Jake) Tilitzky, his six children, Vanj (Ernie) Thiessen, Rick (Marilyn), Rose (John) Snyder, Bill (Donna Tennant), Wanda (Bruno) Derksen-Bergen, and Lily (Roy Wang) Derksen, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A special thank you to Dr. Richard Welsh for his dedicated care over the many years. A burial service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:30 am at Maclure Road Mennonite Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Emmanuel Mennonite Church 3471 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mennonite Church Canada Witness.
