OSCAR CLARKSTON

Oscar Taff Clarkston passed away peacefully on February 15, 2004 at the Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, B.C. Born in Harlan County, Kentucky on September 25, 1912. Moved to homestead in Fife, B.c. (mountain south of Christina Lake) in about 1914. Married to Sandra (Sadie) Sucholotosky in Smoky Lake, Alberta on October 25, 1941. Built own cabin and homesteaded at Fife until 1947, when moved to Canyon, B.C. (outside of Creston) and again built own home and homesteaded on small farm. Worked as farmer and as truck driver and ferry operator for B.C. Department of Highways from about 1954 until retirement on December 31, 1973. Moved into town (Creston) in 1970, where he loved until December 2003.

Will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Sadie, and their daughters; Ardis (Ian C.) MacLeod, Richmond, B.C. and Shirley (Rand) Carr, Abbotsford, B.C. 5 grandchildren; Heather, Stephanie and Cameron MacLeod, Melanie (MacLeod) Bolton and husband Johnny and Aaron Guthrie and 1 great-granddaughter, Chloe Bolton and many friends in Creston.

Predeceased by his parents Henry Wise Clarkston and Susie Estella (Witt) Clarkston (both in 1953) and 11 brothers and sisters; (Howard, Noah, Merlin, Alan, Nora, Dora, Raymond, Arthur, Alice, and twin infant girls).

Survived by one sister, Thelma (Orville) Reimer and one brother, Roy each of Merville, B.C. Will be remembered for his love of outdoors and nature and his wonderful kindness and patience. We thank the entire staff and residents of Swan Valley Lodge in Creston and Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, B.C. for their kindness and caring. Flowers gratefully declined.
