Muriel SMITH

December 25, 2009

SMITH, Muriel Alice

of Maple Ridge, BC died at Ridge Meadows Hospital on the evening of Christmas Day 2009, in her eighty-sixth year. She succumbed to respiratory failure after a short stay at the RMH ICU. Muriel was born in Lethbridge, Ab in 1923 and was predeceased by her parents Albert Bowling (1936) and Alice Burns (1964). She is survived by her husband, Ian Smith of Maple Ridge, children Michael (Ottawa, On), Bruce, (Abbotsford BC), Roderick, (Mission, BC), Christina and Patrick, (Maple Ridge), daughters in law Susan Smith (Mission), Candace Smith and son in law Gary Wheating (Maple Ridge), grandchildren Nicole, Julia, Stephen, Tristan, Ainsley and Alex Smith.

The family would like to thank sincerely the staff of the Ridge Meadows Hospital ICU for their diligent efforts to prolong Muriel's life, and to make her final passing as peaceful as possible.

The wife of an army officer, Muriel had a full time job raising five children as the family moved from posting to posting in the Yukon, three Canadian provinces and Germany, before finally settling in Maple Ridge in 1971. She was an enthusiastic bridge player, she loved going to the latest movies, in later years she was a kind and generous grandmother and she always enjoyed her afternoon glass of sherry.

She was a memorable person and she will be greatly missed. Donations to the Union Gospel Mission and/or Katy's Place Animal Shelter in Maple Ridge in Muriel's name would be appreciated.
