June 7, 2024
Mary Wallis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 7, 2024, at the age of 74 in Abbotsford, B.C. Her unwavering generosity, compassion, and dedication to serving others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born in 1949 in Calgary, Alberta to John and Ruth Peters, Mary grew up on a farm, learning the values of hard work, kindness, and putting others first — qualities that would define her life. After meeting the love of her life, Rolly, at Nazarene College, Mary and Rolly married and welcomed their children, Chris and Jenn, into the world.
Mary's selfless spirit extended far beyond her immediate family. She embraced her daughter-in-law Flor and sister-in-law Theresa as her own, doted on her grandchildren, Jacob and Kendra, and was always there for any neighbour in need.
Baking, gardening, canning, and serving others brought her endless amounts of joy. And Mary's service to her church community was unparalleled. She was always the first to volunteer, whether it was cleaning, counting collection, or shuttling those in need.
After the passing of her husband Rolly in 2017, Mary embraced a newfound sense of adventure. She traveled the world, making dumplings in China, pouring the perfect Guinness in Ireland, and trying haggis in Scotland. She was an extraordinary, selfless, and loving person who lived a full life.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 10:30 am at the Church of the Nazarene, 2390 McMillan Rd, Abbotsford. The community is invited to gather for coffee and baked goods from 10:00-10:30 am, followed by a short service to honour Mary's extraordinary life and legacy of selfless service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Union Gospel Mission in Mary's name.
