Marlie Snider

June 11, 2005

(1933-2005)

Marlie Snider (nee Payne) passed away Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Langley Memorial Hospital after an extended battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Marlie is survived by her husband, Neil, daughter Dawn (Richard), son Dean (Darlene), daughter Dana, sisters Lois Wood and Betty (Jack) Booth, grandchildren Madison, Kennedy, Bailey, Joshua and Jordan, and parents-in-law Elmer and Anne Snider.

Margaret Leslie Marlie Payne was born in Toronto, May 4, 1933, to Les and Margaret. She was a shy, carefree, fun-loving youngest sister to Betty and Lois.

In school, Marlie played basketball on the Toronto Globe Trotters girls team and participated in Gilbert and Sullivan musicals. She attended Briercrest Bible Institute in Saskatchewan where she was a featured soloist in choirs and radio ministries. It was there that she met her future husband Neil.

After graduating in 1959, Marlie joined a missions organization and moved to the Hawaiian Islands. She returned to Toronto in 1960, and on September 3rd, Marlie and Neil were married.

They lived in Winnipeg in the early years of their marriage and during this time their three children were born. Marlie and Neil served 11 years at Winnipeg Bible College. Marlie sang in choirs both at the college and in the church they attended.

In 1974, they accepted the presidential post at Trinity Western University and moved to Langley, B.C. Marlie continued to raise their children and was the gracious host for many formal and informal Trinity Western gatherings.

In 1990, Marlie had surgery for breast cancer. She went through chemotherapy and experienced peace and assurance that God was in control. After 10 years, the cancer again surfaced and metastasized in her lower spine. The last five years were a continuing battle with cancer.

For Christmas 2005, Marlie requested that her children and grandchildren be home together to celebrate. She lived life to the full, even through this past spring, with a trip to Hawaii, graduation celebrations at Trinity Western, and a visit with her daughters and their families in Florida.

On Saturday, June 11, Marlie Snider graduated from this life with high honours from all who knew her, God’s faithful servant.

A memorial service to celebrate Marlie’s life will be held on Friday, June 17, 2:30 p.m. at Christian Life Assembly, 21277 56 Avenue, Langley, B.C.

Memorial donations may be made to the Marlie Snider Scholarship Fund. Cards and expressions of sympathy can be sent to the President's Office at Trinity Western University, 7600 Glover Road, Langley, B.C. V2Y 1Y1, 604-888-7511.
