Margaret BAKER

BAKER, Margaret Crystal

Margaret Baker (nee Ruud) passed away peacefully on May 19, 2015 in Abbotsford after a brief stay in the hospital. She was born on May 24, 1917 in Penticton, BC and was predeceased by her husband Herman, her sisters Evelyn, Jeanette, and brother Maurice. Margaret was a loving wife, sister, aunt, great-aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Margaret grew up in the Okanagan Valley and later moved to Chilliwack, West Vancouver and Abbotsford. She was a talented artist and an independent businesswoman who owned a hat shop, ceramics studio, and together with her husband Herm operated a bed and breakfast from their home in Abbotsford.

Margaret shared her birthday with the Queen and in true regal fashion she liked to do things her way. She was always interested in politics, kept track of world events and enjoyed many discussions of the state of affairs, joking about what could be done if she were in charge. Margaret said that when the time came, she wanted to be here today and gone tomorrow. She was an amazing person with a great sense of humour and we were so lucky to have her in our lives. Margaret was an inspiration to many and she was forever young. It is hard to imagine our lives without her but she would like us all to remember the sign above her bed... Keep Calm and Carry On. Her family would like to thank dear friend Mary Enns for the excellent care she gave Margaret during the past few years. At Margaret’s request there will be no service.
