Mabel Goertz (nee Knippshild), passed peacefully at the age of 102.
Mabel was born on the family farm near Simmie, SK on September 11, 1918 the eight of nine children, all deceased.
In 1938 she married Melvin Unruh in Simmie, SK. During the early 1940's two sons, Gerald and Guy were born and later a daughter Sheila after moving to BC.
Mabel worked at Langley Memorial Hospital as one of the first practical nurses, working nearly her entire career in the maternity ward while residing on their chicken/egg farm in the Aldergrove area for over 50 years.
Mabel's husband Melvin passed away in 1983 and in 1986 she married Leonard Goertz of Estevan, SK. They lived both in SK and BC and in 2000 Len passed away. Predeceased also by her two sons, she is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and large extended family including grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mabel was a kind, caring person who always put others first. She attended Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly as well as bible study at Mennonite Bretheren Church, enjoying the fellowship and friendship of these special congregations.
